Headed for Walmart for returns and arrived around 10pm sharp. I was afraid it was going to close and kinda in a hurry. Hardly had I parked my car well when I dashed in for Customer Services while wearing my jinbei. Then I got stopped by a staff member who told me not to hustle as it would be closing 11pm. This middle-aged Persian American, Jay, had simply mistaken me for an immigrant from Japan, asking if “we” Japanese are toiling hard insomuch that “we” may become completely suicidal. He said I had moved quite fast as if I’d been hurrying for work, very typical of the Japanese. Lol. To his eyes, both the Chinese and the Japanese are hardworking peoples, at least more so than most Canadians and Americans. I nodded my head and further informed him of what real Asian office life is like. He was amazed. But I loved such random convos inspired by a random folk’s observation and understanding.
